What is pickleball?
Pickleball combines elements of tennis, table tennis and badminton. It is played with a solid paddle and a perforated plastic ball on a court measuring 6.10 × 13.41 metres. Both singles and doubles formats exist.

How does it differ from padel?
- Court: a pickleball court is smaller than a padel court and has no playable glass walls.
- Paddle: pickleball uses a solid paddle; padel uses a perforated racket.
- Ball: pickleball uses perforated plastic, while padel uses a ball resembling a tennis ball.
- Net: pickleball has a lower net than tennis.
- Wall play: walls form part of padel rallies, but not pickleball rallies.
Basic playing principles
The kitchen: the non-volley zone
The kitchen extends 2.13 metres from the net on each side. You cannot volley while touching this zone or its line, or let your momentum carry you into it after a volley. You may enter to play a ball that has bounced.
The serve
The serve travels diagonally into the opposite service court. Serving technique depends on the permitted serve type; ask your coach to explain the volley serve and drop serve and the rules used in your session.
The two-bounce rule
The receiving team must let the serve bounce, and the serving team must then let the return bounce. After those two bounces, players may volley subject to the non-volley-zone rules.

Where can you play in Israel?
Check tennis clubs, municipal sports centres and local pickleball groups. Confirm that the facility currently offers pickleball, and ask about bookings and rental equipment.
